Implant supported fixed dentures are a way to replace teeth when all or most of the teeth are missing on the upper or lower jaw. This type of prosthesis is sometimes used when a patient cannot tolerate the palate being completely covered or retention is not there. It is more comfortable with less material in the mouth. In the upper jaw, we usually need to have six to eight dental implants while the lower jaw requires two to five implants. There are several types of implant over-denture. Make an appointment to find out which is best your need.
An implant-supported bridge is used when more than one tooth is missing. It is a good alternative to removable partial dentures as it is a fixed prosthesis. Implant supported bridge is made similar to a traditional bridge. The only difference is that the crown(s) anchored between two implant supported crowns instead of your natural teeth. It also may be used when there is a concerned that you might exert too much pressure on individual implants that are not connected together. For example, clenching or grinding your teeth can put a lot of pressure on individual implants. This can increase the chances that they will loosen from the bone and fail. An implant-supported bridge reduces the pressure on the individual implants in the bone, and spreads it across the entire bridge.
A tooth should be replaced as soon as it is lost. This will prevent bone loss and reduce movement of the surrounding teeth. A dental implant designed to replace a single tooth is composed of three parts. The first part is the titanium implant that fused to the jawbone like an artificial root. The middle component is the abutment, which fits over the portion of the implant that protrudes from the gum line. Finally, the visible portion is the crown, which fits onto the abutment for a natural appearance.
